Sorry we no longer sell facemasks, but we do have other great products! Please stay and shop around a bit :)
While we have found that behind the head elastic is more comfortable for extended periods of time, don't get lost as easily or slip down, and are more user friendly for people with hearing aids.
Sometimes you just want ear loops, we get it.
Not to worry! Today we are going to show you how to convert AdventureUs Face Masks (or any with one continuous piece of elastic) into a mask with two ear loops.
We promise this is so easy to do. We've even got step-by step photo instructions for you visual learners. So let's get started!
Converting Behind the Head Style Face Masks to Ear Loops
First, gather your tools:
-Mask with continuous piece of elastic
-Sharp scissors,
-Ruler
-Lighter (optional)
Step 1 - Lay out the elastic beside the measuring tape.
Now lay out your mask with the elastic parallel to your ruler and the toggle at the zero mark.
Step 2 - Cut one end of the elastic on both sides and line up the end with the zero mark on your ruler.
Step 3 - Cut the other end of the elastic between 11-13" depending on what you think you'll need for sizing.
Tips: Start with more, you can always cut it down
Lay the mask out flat with the newly cut elastic on either end.
Keep making small adjustments until it's just right, then tighten those knots.
Step 5 - Tighten knots, snip excess elastic off, and lightly singe elastic tips with lighter to keep them from fraying.
Ta-da! That's all there is to it!
Congratulations - You've made ear loops!
We hope you've found this tutorial helpful. Here are some other common questions and their answers in a nutshell.
Why doesn't AdventureUs just make all its masks with ear loops? Well, it turns out there are a lot of different head sizes out there! This means there's no standard size ear loop that will be comfortable and functional for everyone (or even nearly everyone). So we construct our Face Masks with one long piece of elastic and a toggle so that you can adjust it to be just right for you.
We have also found that behind the head elastic is more comfortable for extended periods of time.
My current mask has elastic/ear loops that dig in to the backs of my ears, what can I do? Not to worry, AdventureUs has you covered. We sell elastic (in black and white) so you can re-string that mask with something more comfortable. Click here to browse elastic.
Do your masks have filter pockets? Yes, they do! Every one of our masks, from our Special Artist Edition Lake Superior Face Mask to our classic Black Face Mask is constructed with a double layer of cotton and a filter pocket. Filter material is a great way to add another layer of protection to your mask and can be found here.
